The National Association of Comic Art Educators is an organization committed promoting the acceptance of comics as an art form within educational institutions and to facilitate the teaching and use of comics in educational settings. The increasing numbers of young artists who have chosen comics as their medium of expression continues to grow rapidly. Schools, colleges and universities have been slow to acknowledge and engage these students.
While most schools still hold antiquated notions of what comics are, a growing number of schools have started offering programs and classes in comics (or sequential art, as it is often referred to). Teaching comics in school is a relatively new phenomenon. Many schools that have implemented programs have met with tremendous success.
The NACAE's website objective is to be a resource where the growing number of educators in comic art/sequential art can get and share ideas. It is also hoped that educators who work in other disciplines can use comics as a way of furthering their own objectives.
NACAE operates under the fiscal sponsorship of The Center for Cartoon Studies, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
